Die Grafik sieht super aus, die Einheiten und Gebäude haben endlich die Detailstufe, die sie verdienen, und die Effekte, gerade bei den göttlichen Kräften, sind einfach nur episch. Ich hab mich direkt wieder in meine Kindheit zurückversetzt gefühlt, aber gleichzeitig fühlt sich alles moderner und flüssiger an. Das Gameplay ist zum Glück genau so, wie ich es in Erinnerung hatte – Basis bauen, Einheiten ausbilden und dann mit mythologischen Kreaturen die Gegner plattmachen. Die Balance zwischen den verschiedenen Zivilisationen wirkt gut überarbeitet, und es gibt viele Strategien, die man ausprobieren kann. Ich hatte keine großen Performance-Probleme, alles lief butterweich und die Ladezeiten sind angenehm kurz. Was mir besonders gefallen hat, ist die überarbeitete Benutzeroberfläche. Alles wirkt klarer und intuitiver, ohne dass es zu sehr vom Original abweicht. Die Steuerung ist flüssig, und neue Spieler finden sich schnell zurecht. Insgesamt ist es einfach das perfekte Remaster: Nostalgie pur, aber mit genug Verbesserungen, damit es sich auch 2024 noch richtig gut spielt.
